Take a peek beyond the beer you love to drink with our blog series titled, "Mug Shots." There are a lot of folks here at Boulder Beer who play a huge role in our day to day success. This is our way of introducing you to the team that makes it all happen. It's time for you to meet National Account Coordinator & West Coast Area Sales Manager, Jim Shevlin!

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Jim has been working in the beer industry in some way for 21 years (He’s finally legal!). Jim started his career in the beer business back in 1995 as a bartender at Yager’s Tap House, a craft beer bar in Folsom, CA. Jim saw the first big wave in craft beer here selling brands such as Sierra Nevada, Widmer and Redhook.

Later, Jim transitioned to roles at both a Budweiser house in Sacramento called Markstein Beverage and a Coors house called Capital Beverage. His first brewery position was at Full Sail Brewing in Hood River, OR where he managed the states of California and Nevada. Jim has also worked for Mad River Brewing in Blue Lake, CA and Manneken Brussel Imports! With an impressive resume, we are happy Jim has brought his expertise to Boulder Beer!

Jim started his career with Boulder Beer three and a half years ago. When asked about his favorite memory, he shared a fun one about how we was hired. “In February 2013, I found out about the West Coast position right before Sacramento Beer Week,” said Jim. “I also found out that the President, Jeff Brown was going to be attending some events. I met Jeff at a Beer Week event and we had a great time together… so much that at the end of the night the cleaning crew at The Shack was mopping up at our feet! I thought if the company culture stems from Jeff, this would be a great place to work! I applied for the job the next day. A month or so later, my first day in training at the brewery was Boulder Beer’s infamous Pearl Street Scavenger Hunt. Talk about a great start!”

When it comes to his favorite beer Jim usually reaches for a Hazed Hoppy Session Ale, but has been enjoying more Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA lately. Jim also says you can’t go wrong with the Pub Burger!

When Jim isn’t selling beer, he used to pass the time snowboarding and wakeboarding, but now can usually be found spending time with his five year old daughter, Lily. “I am an assistant coach for her baseball and soccer teams, and we always have a great time together. We have fun playing, learning and finding new experiences together. I am truly blessed to have her in my life,” says Jim.

Thanks Jim, for all you do! We appreciate you!
