Mug Shots: Meet Adam Nelson
Take a peek beyond the beer you love to drink with our blog series titled, "Mug Shots." There are a lot of folks here at Boulder Beer who play a huge role in our day to day success. This is our way of introducing you to the team that makes it all happen. It's time for you to meet our Area Sales Manager, Adam Nelson!
Adam grew up in the South, hailing from Atlanta, GA. He always knew he wanted to give Colorado a shot and made the move in 2011. Adam didn’t know anyone in Colorado but had a strong background in outside sales for a local phone book as well as sales experience for a trade company called BXI in Georgia. Adam also had a side gig bartending in Georgia for over five years. He stopped by Boulder Beer seeking a bartender position and was told they were not looking for bartenders, but were looking for a server. “It was not beneath me to be a server, so I took it,” says Adam. Adam worked the floor of Boulder Beer for about two years before his current sales role opened up in 2013.
Most of Adams family still lives in Georgia and his sister is a glass blower living in Pittsburgh, PA. Adam thinks of Boulder Beer as his second family and has many memories with fellow staff in and outside of work. “Boulder Beer was the first job I got when I moved to Colorado knowing no one, and still to this day it is the only company I have worked for in Colorado. It’s my home away from home,” says Adam.
When he is not representing Boulder Beer at a festival or event, Adam can be found playing disc golf, seeing live music or enjoying a pint or two of Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA. Adam also recalls another hobby he used to participate in more when he was home. Although he admits he has not done it very recently, Adam also enjoys scuba diving and has completed over 100 open water dives! But a near death experience when he was 16 years old almost steered Adam away from this hobby.
He was getting ready for a night dive in Cozumel, Mexico and was paired up with another diver as his normal diving buddy (his father) was tired. The two went under the water and saw some amazing animal life. Adam was playing with a friendly squid for about 15 minutes when he noticed his partner was no longer under the water with him and he also noticed that his gas gauge was lower than it should be. Adam started coming back to the surface and when he rested at 15 feet, he was attacked by sea fleas. Finally Adam got to the top and found that the boat and crew was nowhere to be found. His survival instincts kicked in and he started swimming towards the lights near the shore. After about 20 minutes the boat returned and he was safe, but this memory still stays with him.
When asked what he is looking forward to Adam is excited about the brewery's second location to open in downtown Boulder in the former Walnut Brewery building. “I think having a spot downtown as Boulder Beer on Walnut will be a game changer for us,” says Adam. “Extra exposure downtown for tourists, students and locals alike will help our brand and, I think, change the vibe on Walnut.”
Thanks Adam, for all you do! We appreciate you!
