Mug Shots: Meet Beth Philpot
Take a peek beyond the beer you love to drink with our blog series titled, "Mug Shots." There are a lot of folks here at Boulder Beer who play a huge role in our day to day success. This is our way of introducing you to the team that makes it all happen. It's time for you to meet pub server, manager and bar back, Beth Philpot.
If you frequent Boulder Beer Company, you've probably seen Beth's friendly face in the pub. Beth has worked for Boulder Beer for almost 4 years and is known to always have a smile on her face. She is frequently found serving in the pub but occasionally picks up bar back and managing shifts. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Beth moved with her family to Daphne, AL when she was 12. She has one sister 5 years her senior and her parents celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year. Her sister, Alex, is her best friend. Beth moved to Colorado with her husband Clint in March of 2012. "We got married on September 24, 2011 on the Mobile River Delta in Mobile, Alabama," Beth said. "Clint was working for the state government and was able to transfer to Denver for work so we took the opportunity to move out west." The couple has been together for 8 years total, married for 4 of them. Currently, they reside in Broomfield, Colorado with their dog, a dachshund/terrier mix named Tibby. (Short for Thibideaux.)
Beth is an avid music fan and especially loves the bands Lettuce and The Roots. She and Clint love to go to shows and her favorite venue is Red Rocks Amphitheater. "I also love to go to Cervantes in the winter time," Beth said. While she enjoys many genres of music, her favorites are Hip Hop and Funk. Her favorite show of 2015 was The Roots at the Ogden in Denver. "I also really enjoyed seeing Lettuce and Umphrey's McGee," said Beth. "The Phish run at Dick's was a highlight as well! We're currently trying to decide if we're going to see The String Cheese Incident or Umphrey's McGee on New Year's Eve," said Beth. She and Clint also love to travel and went to Mexico in October. "We had a great time!" Beth exclaimed. "We ran into Corey [former pub manager] and his wife and were able to hang out with them for a couple of days too." (See picture above.) She loves seafood, especially shrimp and crab. She also really likes Ethiopian food. Beth's other hobbies and interests include camping, hiking, going out to dinner with Clint, cuddling with Tibby and watching Netflix. Beth also likes watching the University of Alabama Football. "Roll Tide!" She and Clint are looking forward to going skiing for the first time this season as well.
In addition to the laid-back atmosphere, Beth loves working at Boulder Beer because of how close everyone is, no matter what department they work for. "There's not many places where you get to work with your favorite people," said Beth. She worked at a brewery in Alabama and really enjoyed the vibe so she knew she wanted to find a job at a brewery when she moved to Colorado. Already familiar with the beer Hazed, Beth decided she wanted to pursue a job at Boulder Beer. "I also like the fact that we are closed on Sundays giving staff time to be with family and friends." Beth feels like she can really be herself here and loves the 'neighborhood pub' feel. Her favorite Boulder brews are fRYEd, Nothing Too Fancy Pale Ale and Hazed Hoppy Session Ale. Her favorite menu item is the steamed pork potstickers. Some of Beth's favorite memories from her years at Boulder Beer are the roll-out parties when we release a new or seasonal beer. "Corey [former pub manager] would take all of the balloons left over from the party at the end of the night and we'd stuff them into someone's car," said Beth. "It happened to me once and it was hilarious when I tried to leave!"
In 2016 Beth is looking forward to buying a house with her husband and starting a family. "We've wanted to buy a house for a while now," said Beth, "and would really love to make that dream a reality in 2016." They will most likely buy a house in Westminster or Longmont. Beth is also looking forward to the remodel of the pub. "It will be great to have more space, updated furniture and possibly a revised menu."
