Mug Shots: Meet Brad Loveland

Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes of Colorado's First Craft Brewery? We'll take you beyond the beer you love to drink with our blog series titled, "Mug Shots." There are a lot of folks here at Boulder Beer who play a huge role in our day to day success. This is our way of introducing you to the team that makes it all happen. It's time for you to meet Area Sales Manager of Northern Colorado and the Western Slope, Brad Loveland.

If you spend any time at local watering holes in Northern CO or the Western Slope, you may have seen our Bearded Brad before. Always on the go, Brad doesn't go unnoticed- he stands at a towering 6'5" tall and has a beard that would make Grizzly Adams jealous. A dedicated member of our stellar sales team, Brad always has a smile on his face and is one of the first to help out in any given situation. Brad has worked for Boulder Beer Company for almost three years. Prior to his employment with us, he was a craft beer nerd giving brewery tours at MillerCoors in Golden. We are asked all the time for advice on how to get your foot in the door to the craft brewing industry. This is what Brad had to say; "My biggest suggestion is start learning about beer any way you can."  We agree! "Giving 10 brewery tours a day at one of the biggest brew facilities in the country gave me some in depth knowledge about the brewing process, different beer flavor profiles, and the ability to talk to anyone with any level of beer knowledge," said Brad. "This translated very well to selling Craft Beer for Boulder Beer Company."

The third child of 4, Brad grew up in Lakewood, Colorado where his parents still live today. He has an older brother living in San Diego, an older sister living in Denver, and a younger sister that lives right down the street from him in Fort Collins. All of Brad's siblings are avid craft beer lovers. "My girlfriend Megan and I live in Fort Collins together and love every minute of it," said Brad. "Megan has been my love/partner-in-crime/life coach/best friend since we met during our last semester at CSU. She has been my go to beer fest volunteer for the past 2 ½ years and there were definitely a few that I wouldn’t have made it through without her!" We'd like to take a moment as well, to give a shout out to Megan for all of her hard work for the brewery! Thanks Megan, for being an advocate of Boulder Beer. :)

A graduate from Colorado State University, Brad earned a degree in Business Marketing. "I’m a little bit of an anomaly," explained Brad. "Being a CSU grad and Fort Collins local who sells Boulder Beer." Brad's favorite Boulder brew is Cold Hop British-Style Ale. "It’s so unique compared to all of our other releases, I welcome it with open arms every April." A couple close seconds for Brad are fRYEd Fresh-Hopped Rye Pale Ale and Killer Penguin Barleywine. Bonus answer: "Bourbon Barrel Aged Cold Hop was the first beer I drank from Boulder Beer when I came in to the brewery to do some “research” on all the brands before I had my job interview!" We like your style, Brad. As for food, "my go-to food menu item at the brewery is the Left Coast Chicken Sandwich," said Brad.

In his spare time, Brad loves to hunt, especially birds. "The second best part about hunting is coming up with new recipes to cook wild game," Brad said. "I am a big fan of cooking and I like to think I am a pretty good chef; I think Megan enjoys it the most and can attest to that."  Brad also enjoys mountain biking and road biking and tries to do as much of it as he can in the summer. He's always in for a hike or a camping trip and loves getting on his skis in the winter time. "I also have a weird obsession of jumping into pretty much any body of water that I come across, especially if there is a cliff that I can jump from. The biggest cliff jump I have done to date was a 90 footer at Lake Navajo in NM," said Brad. "And one of the most epic and coldest bodies of water I have swam in was the Tasman Glacier runoff lake in New Zealand; I will never forget climbing on top of a floating hunk of glacier and doing a flip off it." (See picture for proof!) "Traveling is another one of my passions, I lived in New Zealand for 6 months, and my next trip planned is to Munich, Germany & Prague, Czech Republic." Sounds like an amazing vacation!

We asked Brad to share one special memory he has from his years at Boulder Beer. Sit back and enjoy, this is a good one! "Watching a man try to carefully peel the champagne cage off a 6 litre bottle of Belgium Beer that sat on display at Rueben’s Burger Bistro in Boulder during my first Boulder Beer Scavenger Hunt is fondly burnt into my brain," Brad said. "A Champagne cage was one of the items to collect for the scavenger hunt, and he thought he could be sneaky and take it from the giant bottle on display until a 6 foot geyser of tasty Belgian beer exploded out of the bottle hitting the ceiling and soaking the entire host stand." In the end, the guy had to cough up over $500 to purchase the bottle, but he wasn’t that disappointed because he got to drink what was left! Thank you to the lovely folks at Rueben’s, for still being our friends. In 2016, Brad is looking forward to the remodel of the brewery and pub. "Also, word on the street is that we'll have some fun new releases next year," said Brad. "If that’s the case I’m excited to sell some new beers and of course enjoy drinking a few too!"

Thanks so much for all you do, Brad. Your hard work is greatly appreciated!
