Mug Shots: Meet Joe Colombe

Take a peek beyond the beer you love to drink with our blog series titled, "Mug Shots." There are a lot of folks here at Boulder Beer who play a huge role in our day to day success. This is our way of introducing you to the team that makes it all happen. It's time for you to meet Brewer, Joe Colombe!

Joe was born in The Mount Rushmore state of South Dakota and moved to Colorado for college. Living in Colorado for about 15 years, Joe went to school in Greely and graduated with his business degree. Shortly after he finished school Joe got a job in insurance sales for about seven years.

After working in a cubical for almost a decade, Joe decided he needed to try something new. He became a backpacking guide for a few months and that sparked his interest into doing something he loved. Joe started working at Boulder Beer Company in production and after about eight months he was promoted to Brewer. Joe has been with the company for one year and four months!

As an avid homebrewer, Joe was thrilled to transition into a job he looks forward to doing every day. “I never thought I would be where I am today a year and a half ago,” says Joe. “Boulder Beer has a community and family vibe that makes me happy to come to work each day.” We love seeing your smiling face every day too Joe! Some of Joe’s best memories at Boulder Beer include the annual Pearl St. Scavenger Hunt and last year’s surprise bowling party for Bill Pringle, our brewery Morale Guru.

When Joe isn’t mashing in to Lady Gaga on the sound system at the brewery (one of his favorite artists to brew to), you can find him backpacking, hiking, watching live music or homebrewing. One of Joe’s brothers (he is the youngest in his family of two brothers and one sister) got him interested in homebrewing. “I like to brew different styles at home, like sours, that I don’t get to at work,” says Joe.

When it comes to beer, Joe can be found drinking Killer Penguin Barleywine (when in season) or Mojo IPA! He usually pairs one of these beers with the new Prime Rib sandwich from our smoker.

Reflecting back on 2016, Joe had a fun year and is looking forward to brewing up some exciting pilot brews in 2017. (Look for his Wee Heavy Scottish Style Ale as one of the special tappings for our Grand Reopening Party on 12/16!) Joe is also excited to attend the Big Beers Belgians and Barleywines Beer Festival on January 7th up in Breckenridge. Look for the Boulder Beer crew serving Killer Penguin Barleywine, Later Dude (Wheat Wine aged in Breckenridge Distillery whiskey barrels), Mojo Risin Double IPA and The Dudes D’Spare (Imperial Stout aged in Cabernet wine barrels).

Thanks Joe, for all you do! We appreciate you!
