Mug Shots: Meet Larry White
Take a peek beyond the beer you love to drink with our blog series titled, "Mug Shots." There are a lot of folks here at Boulder Beer who play a huge role in our day to day success. This is our way of introducing you to the team that makes it all happen. It's time for you to meet day bartender, Larry White!
Larry, who is originally from Northwestern Pennsylvania, made the trek to Colorado back in 2000 with a friend, though it was not until 2012 that Larry became a member of the Boulder Beer family. “A lot of my friends were moving to Colorado after they finished school,” says Larry. “I moved out here with a friend from 2000-2002. I had to go back home to help my family (which includes 2 older and 1 younger sister) and decided to finish school as well. But I knew Colorado was where I wanted to be.”
Larry got his foot in the door with Boulder Beer after taking a serving position in 2012. A good friend of his had been working at Boulder and loved it. He applied for a job when he moved back to Colorado in 2011 but at that time nothing was available. "But then I got a call from Boulder Beer about a year later and have been here ever since. Thanksgiving will mark my five year anniversary,” exclaims Larry. Congrats on the five year milestone, Larry!
A lot has changed in the five years Larry has worked at the brewery. “I love how the recent patio remodel came out!” He also can’t wait to see what the inside of the Pub looks like when that phase of the remodel is finished as well. Stay tuned folks, that’s later this year! Larry also says he’s really looking forward to celebrating Boulder’s 37th anniversary on July 16th, and so are we! The rare beer garden will be epic!
With almost five years under his belt, Larry knows the ins and outs of Boulder Beer’s tap list and food menu. His favorite brew currently on tap is Cold Hop British-Style Ale and he says you can’t go wrong by ordering the Pub’s fish tacos! “The pineapple pico and aioli on the fish tacos really put them over the top,” says Larry.
When he’s not slinging suds, you can find Larry hiking, fishing or rock climbing (despite his fear of heights). “I remember when I first moved to Colorado I wanted to take up fly fishing. I did a lot of fishing in Pennsylvania but never tried fly fishing,” he says. “After watching friends I thought I would pick it up easily and boy, was I wrong. It’s so much harder than it looks.” Larry is also a self-proclaimed nerd who loves to collect comic books. He put his passion to work and has a side business where he buys and sells vintage and rare comics.
When asked about his favorite Boulder Beer story, the first thing that came to mind was the fact that he gets to work with an awesome group of people. "It's been great to work surrounded by friends at the Pub but it's neat to also have friends nationwide spreading the love for Boulder Beer. Overall, it’s been amazing to be a part of this family for the past five years and the others I have met in the craft beer industry have been very welcoming.”
In closing, Larry wanted to give a nod to his black & yellow hometown sports team by simply saying, “Go Stillers!” (No, that's not a typo, just a bit of that Northwest PA twang). Thanks Larry, for all you do! We appreciate you!
