Mug Shots: Meet Logan Wolff
Take a peek beyond the beer you love to drink with our blog series titled, "Mug Shots." There are a lot of folks here at Boulder Beer who play a huge role in our day to day success. This is our way of introducing you to the team that makes it all happen. It's time for you to meet our Chef and Kitchen Manager, Logan Wolff!
Logan grew up in Cincinnati, OH and has been working in a restaurant setting since he was 14 years old. He made his first journey to Colorado in 2001 when he came out for a business trip with his dad. Logan fell in love with Colorado, so he moved out in September of that year. Logan’s mom still lives at home in Ohio and he had a sister that lives in Alaska but the rest of Logan’s family (his dad and two brothers) all live in Colorado.
Logan started working at the Mountain and Southern Sun restaurants, and has since worked for a handful of Colorado restaurants and breweries including Oskar Blues (in the kitchen and on the canning line), J Wells and Asher. Logan also worked at Pearl Street Pub after taking a hiatus from cooking and gave bartending a shot.
But the bar scene was getting to Logan, and after a frustrating night in 2016 a friend of his that was currently working at Boulder Beer texted him to let him know they were looking for a new kitchen manager! “I knew I had to at least apply for the job,” says Logan. “I had cooked for a while and wanted to get back into it. It was perfect timing.”
Logan landed the job and joined the Boulder Beer team mid-September of 2016. When asked about his favorite part of the job, Logan said that working for Boulder Beer is great because it’s like a family. “When I started our kitchen staff was pretty thin but I think we have a very strong team cooking now. It’s been really cool to watch our staff grow, evolve and learn since I started,” says Logan. Logan can be found drinking Mojo IPA and he loves the smoked Prime Rib, which you can get as the Thursday dinner special or as a sandwich for the Friday lunch special!
When he is not working at Boulder Beer you can usually find Logan golfing or playing a few rounds of cribbage. Logan is looking forward to a few things in 2017. One of them is getting to play around with the new menu for Boulder Beer on Walnut (opening mid-July). “Our food menu at Boulder Beer on Walnut will be similar to the newer one here at the Pub but we will be keeping some of the old favorites too,” says Logan. Logan also will be traveling to Sonoma County to cater an event at a vineyard. “I’ve had this trip planned for a while and I’m looking forward to serving my food to a whole new audience of people.”
Logan also helped to create a pilot brew for our 38th Anniversary Celebration next Saturday (For more information on the party visit our Facebook event page). The beer they brewed for the party is a smoked IPA called Pitmaster. “We had a lot of fun with this one,” says Logan. “To get a subtle smokiness I smoked most of the malt used in this beer on the smoker for about two hours. It was awesome to smell the aroma and watch the color of it change before we brewed with it,” says Logan.
