IN RETROSPECT, IT MAKES SENSE THE FIRST EVER CRAFT BREWERY IN COLORADO WAS STARTED IN BOULDER – a city, a culture, and a natural setting in America like no other. Few cities have Boulder’s creativity or innovative entrepreneurial spirit, and none can rival Boulder’s curious intersections of food and tech, East meets West, and hippy past with outdoorsy athleticism present. Since 1979, Boulder Beer has been founded, created, loved, and lifted up by Boulderites. Boulderites who are often seen on bike, foot, rope, skis or occasionally a makeshift floating machine to get down the creek. Boulderites who have pride in the black and gold, no matter where they went to school. Boulderites who love where they are from and more likely than not, have been drinking Hazed & Infused since they can remember because, well, they are loyal. People of ingenuity, pride, kindness, and quirk. That’s the Boulderites that Boulder Beer owes it to.
JUST LIKE MOST, WHEN MATTHEW OSTERMAN SAW BOULDER BEER ANNOUNCING THE CLOSING OF ITS DOORS, HIS HEART SANK. Boulder Beer is, and was, too original of a brewery for it to fade away. Matt, a Boulderite himself, came of (legal) age on Boulder Beer and couldn’t imagine a world without beer from the Colorado brewery that started it all. Conveniently, Matt already ran a brewery silently famous for helping multiple Colorado brewers increase production beyond their current capacities. So taking the full reigns of Boulder Beer was an easy, full heart decision for him.
MATT, ALONG WITH OWNER GINA DAY, SEE THE GOAL OF THIS SECOND LIFE OF BOULDER BEER AS NO DIFFERENT THAN THE FOUNDING GOAL: continue to be a pioneer in brewing and do so by tapping into the creative zeitgeist that is the city of Boulder and its inhabitants. In short, to make Boulder Boulder Than Ever. To write this bold new chapter, longtime fans of the brand who are brewers, entrepreneurs, and creatives have banded together. They finessed old BB favorites with the latest brewing technologies while creating new beers honoring BB’s always pioneering tradition.
THEY NOTICED HOW ALL CRAFT BREWERIES SEEM TO LOOK ALIKE ON THE SHELF THESE DAYS AND DECIDED TO DESIGN AN ENTIRELY FRESH, STAND ALONE LOOK FOR BOULDER BEER. Each black & white photograph is from a fellow Boulderite who used their lens to capture a viewpoint of Boulder’s inspiring natural setting. Each design and color choice is hand picked from the colors and textures that make up Boulder. And, of course, every beer is brewed to represent the hazy memories and infused creativity of this place like no other.
